Pediatric Dental Filling
Patching up damaged areas
When cavities or decay do occur, fillings are used to repair the area. To treat a cavity, a dentist will remove the decayed portion of a tooth and fill the area with a filling.
Your child may be nervous to go to the dentists for dental procedures like a dental filling. Tooth fillings for children are common and the best way to lessen your children’s anxiety is to creative a positive attitude about going to the dentist to get a filling. When your child’s dentist lets you know they’ve found a cavity, don’t worry. Remain calm and positive about the cavity, and your children will too!
We recommend explaining to your child that there is an area on their tooth that needs a little extra care, but it will be an easy procedure. Then contact our office to schedule your appointment as soon as possible.
Types of fillings
Tooth-colored (composite) or silver-colored (amalgam) fillings will be placed, depending on each unique situation. Resin-based composite restorations were introduced in dentistry about 50 years ago. Amalgam material has been around for 150 years and, according to the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, is still most widely used around the world today.
Fillings can also be used to repair cracked or broken teeth. You may contact our office or speak with the dentist at your child’s next appointment to learn more about fillings.
